A loan to the Community Loan Fund is a stable investment that pays interest to the lender and creates opportunity many times over in New Hampshire’s communities.

"With world markets acting so erratically, some of our clients are coming to the decision that direct, community investing is an option they need to explore further."

Here’s how it works: Hundreds of individuals and institutions entrust us with loans from $1,000 into the millions. Lenders name their own simple annual interest rate – up to 5% for loans 10 years and longer, up to 4% for loans of four to nine years, up to 3% for shorter loans. The Community Loan Fund issues each a promissory note.
That money forms the majority of the loan pool from which we directly fund community projects that create opportunity for decent housing, child care and jobs for lower-income families. None of it is placed in stocks, bonds or the money market.
We make loans because we think they’re good for the people getting them, not for short-term profitability. Our borrowers are people and nonprofit organizations that don’t qualify for a bank loan, but are responsible and motivated to achieve their goals, including repayment. We connect them with the specialized training and support they need to be successful.
Over the Community Loan Fund’s 26 years we have a spotless record of 100% repayment to our lenders. We take great care to maintain reserves so that in the event of a loss, lenders’ money is protected. However, lenders are advised that loans to the Community Loan Fund are neither FDIC-insured, nor tax deductible as charitable gifts.
Making a loan to the Community Loan Fund is easy. Simply print and fill out a loan application indicating the amount, term, and interest rate you want and return it to us with your check. Upon receipt, we’ll send you a Loan Agreement to sign and a Promissory Note containing our promise to repay the loan to you.
