What Is A CDFI?

First CDFI in NH
The Loan Fund, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was one of the first statewide loan funds established in the United States, and is the only Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) of its type serving the entire state of New Hampshire.

What are CDFIs?
CDFIs are private-sector financial institutions that focus on markets historically underserved by traditional financial institutions, with the shared goal of developing communities. The Loan Fund is one of 600 CDFIs certified by the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund of the U.S. Department of the Treasury (www.cdfi.org) The federal fund, created by Congress in 1994, provides capital to certified CDFIs to help leverage private-sector investments to support housing, community facilities, jobs and essential services for low- and moderate-income people.
